We’ve all heard it before: Exercise does your body, mind and soul so much good! If you were hoping I might tell you, that sitting on your couch binge-watching your current addiction on Netflix does the same kind of good, then I’m sorry to disappoint you but that’s not the case.
Exercise is one of the easiest ways to boost your metabolism, health and honestly the best form of a happy pill you can give your mood. My personal experience with fitness has always been a bit of a turbulent relationship. I never felt I knew enough about what to do for my body to make it “worth it.” I was also famous for pushing off workouts because I had other things to do for someone else that took priority. I’d made attempts to try different programs with the help of a trainer. I found most of these to be not only expensive but also so unrealistic for my lifestyle. They were diets and were often based on the most recent fitness trend. I have a childhood case of hypothyroidism and was constantly told that this “should” work in both managing the diagnosis and fitness. I craved for someone who could just tell me what would actually work for me.
I even once paid $300 for a program with an online trainer that gave me workouts, and a “training” regime with a trainer I had never met, that lived locally. When I received my “customized” program I felt unbelievably overwhelmed with the information and yet bored. The meal plan was the same for weeks on end, and the foods weren’t even tailored to ones I could eat. Oh, and the supplements. I cannot even tell you how many supplements. Needless to say, this program was not for me! I essentially paid $300 for a handful of workouts that were beyond my capabilities at the time and a couple of recipes that didn’t contain ingredients I needed to google.
The moral of my rant is that you need to find the program that works for you and that may mean finding a few that don’t first! There are SO many amazing options out there when it comes to fitness. Yes, they may be tricky to find, or maybe you feel a little shy. I promise you, that if you decide why you’re doing what you’re doing, the rest won’t matter!
I’ve decided to give you a sneak peek into one of my favourite fitness solutions. This has become a way of life and I encourage you to check it out especially if you believe you’re just too busy to work out…

Meet my coach, Leslie!
I was following along with Leslie’s Facebook page, and everything she posted was like she was speaking directly to me! This girl has a story, and a killer outlook when it comes to fitness and making it work for you! She’s real and will work with you to achieve your goals but you better be ready. She doesn’t accept bullsh*t excuses, and you shouldn’t either!
I’ll admit I followed Leslie on social media for the longest time without really knowing what the heck she even did. I honestly didn’t care. I just loved her message and kick-ass attitude. I identified with so much of what she was saying and could see her passion in every post- the good, bad and ugly! She is an advocate for all things self-care related. She’s REAL and I think that’s so refreshing when it comes to fitness. Like myself, she cusses like a sailor and has a couple of pups that are right up there with my boy, Rukus on the adorable scale.
Finally, one day I had to know more and I’ve been hooked since. I started off with the 21 Day Fix and I love it for so many reasons!
- I’ve always struggled with not eating enough. Not in an attempt to diet, I just genuinely loose track of time and miss snack times and even sometimes meals. This program helps me to meal plan easily so I don’t miss meals. There are still days where I find it’s a lot of food to eat but I finally understand why my body needs me to eat that much.
- Workouts are roughly 30 mins long and easy to follow along with. A workout guide tells you exactly what workouts you should do, and you can access them online or download the app! Now don’t misunderstand me, they are not easy to do! The more you give, the better your workout. There’s a modification to make each move easier or more challenging depending on your fitness level. Whatever version you’re doing, you better give it your all. Make each workout count!
- The 21-day fix app is so helpful! It tells you what workout to do, and lets you track your food to ensure you’re getting all your containers in and really giving your body the fuel it needs to keep up with the workouts.
- Most importantly, the support of Leslie’s group is amazing! We have a challenge group app that we log our workouts, our losses and wins! Admittedly, I need to get better at logging everything.
Before finding this program, I struggled to find time to workout and I honestly thought I was too busy. What a crappy excuse that was only trying to fool myself! I’ve since realized that no one is ever too busy. We just have to learn to prioritize our workouts! When they come first, it’s incredible the number of things you can accomplish. I find I sleep better, am way more energized to take on my daily tasks and things that would normally stress me out just roll off my back!
