This year I decided to switch things up a bit in regards to my personal goal setting. I’m normally very structured, and I tend to over plan my objectives. The end of 2016 gave me some quality time off that I spent reflecting on the year and trying to determine what I wanted out of the year ahead. Upon my personal reflection, I enjoyed reading about others New Year’s resolutions as well. I came across a friend of mine who chose a word to guide her through the next year and I absolutely loved the idea. So I went on my journey to find a word that really expressed how I wanted to spend my year. It took me a few days to find a word that could really encompass all that I wanted to accomplish in an entire year but I finally decided on NOURISH.
How I Plan to NOURISH My Life in 2017.
If I’ve learned anything throughout my planning experience, it’s that no matter how well you plan for the unexpected it will always sneak up on you. With this in mind, my strategy is simple. When 2017 presents me with an unexpected situation, I will evaluate if it is part of my Nourish journey. Does it nourish my life in some way? Until then, here’s more insight into how I plan to nourish different areas of my life.
Nourish my Body
In 2017, I am prioritizing workouts and meal planning to ensure I’m giving my body the resources it needs to make it through the day efficiently. For so long, I’ve unintentionally restricted myself by claiming ” I didn’t have time”. In reality, I didn’t have time for these because I didn’t make them a priority. I’ve since blocked out the time in my calendar, found Beachbody, a wonderful resource for different workout regimes ( that didn’t break my bank account) and aanamazing support system that goes along with it. I talk more about my journey with fitness, and the incredible support I’ve received from my coach here.
Nourish my Mind
In 2017, I’m nourishing my mind with education both formal and informal. Something I’ve always wanted to do but never gave myself the time to do, was learn a second language. I’m currently doing that with the help of formal education at my local college. In the informal sense, my BeachBody Coach has gathered some members from the tribe and formed a Happiness Project where together, we are completing the 40 days of May Cause Miracles by Gabrielle Bernstein. This guide gives us strategies to refocus our outlook, remove the negative and focus on the miracles of life. While I’m only part way through, it’s been an interesting experience so far and I’m sure I’ll share more on this later.
Nourish my Relationship
In 2017, I will make my relationship a priority. It seems to be that as we get busier, we find less time for our significant others resulting in less and less communication. I’m fortunate enough to have an incredibly understanding partner who doesn’t mind my love for busy. It’s important that I priorities time for us, and communicate with him even when I’m too busy to think.
Nourish my Friendships
In 2017, I will make time for my friends. When you’re young, you think you’ll easily be friends with your school mates forever. You can’t imagine a day that you won’t see them all the time. Then you graduate school and actually have to make an effort to see them. Things get complicated with different lifestyles as you figure out who you are, work schedules and family commitments. Even in high school, I was that friend who couldn’t come because I was working. Up until now, I’ve still been filling that role. I want to invest time into building stronger friendships that will bring nourishment to my life.
Nourish my Employment
In 2017, I will give my FTJ quality time not a large quantity of time. Previously, I’ve spent a large number of hours on the clock including nights and weekends even when my position was suppose to be a 40 hour day job. What I’ve learned in doing so is that it didn’t make me a better employee. It made me a stressed out, tired employee with no extra to give. Instead, I will focus on giving quality hours and saving the extra hours for special circumstances. There will always be work to do, but by prioritizing and being efficient with my time I’ll be able to produce better work and have the emotional space to give more when needed.
Nourish my Business
In 2017, I will not be afraid to succeed in my business. My passion for working with clients has led me to this incredible venture after years of planning and creating. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little scared that it will fail. I know the realities of business and sometimes instead of focusing on the potential, I focus of the fact that my business could fail. I sometimes delay opportunities in fear that I don’t know enough and I will hold myself back from moving forward. This year I will not hold back. I will create my own opportunities in my business and I will continue to grow with each one of my clients.
Nourish my Bank Account.
In 2017, I’m committed to cutting my spending, paying off debt and saving for my future. In this task, my love for creating budgets is coupled with my love for planning for the future. I’m eager to learn more ways on how to successfully prepare my financial plan and develop strategies for long term success.
Now that I’ve shared mine with you, I want to know what you have planned for 2017. What is one way you plan to better your life in 2017?
